Outdoor education experiences help show students that learning can happen anywhere at any time.

It鈥檚 lakeside location in the Peterborough area means students enrolled at Lakefield Public School have ready access to outdoor education opportunities, like learning about the natural environment while canoeing.


For the first 120 years of its existence, Lakefield College School did not have a gymnasium. It didn鈥檛 need one as its location in the lake and river filled Peterborough region provided ample outdoor activities for its students.

鈥淭he school philosophy was founded on this outdoor ethos,鈥 said Andrew Johnston, Lakefield鈥檚 program area leader for outdoor education. 鈥淭hat looked very different in the 1930s or 1970s then it does now, but the ability to take advantage of out physical surroundings is something that has been with us since day one.鈥
