Be self-aware

Self-awareness is a powerful tool when it comes to opening doors to new opportunities. Start by identifying your strengths, recognize areas where you can excel, and be prepared to articulate those strengths when the time comes.

A crystal-clear self-assessment will help you focus on enhancing your abilities and improve the things you can work on. If your skills or passion are not utilized properly in your current position, find another way to use them. This will broaden your exposure, position you as a team player and help you stand out.

Keep your ear to the ground

Opportunity is everywhere. The more open you are to what is out there, the more likely you are to recognize it. The emergence of AI, remote workplaces, and a more agile workforce make flexibility critical.

Shifting priorities can help you look at change as a positive and adjust. If a meeting is cancelled, use the time to catch up on email. If you are transferred to a different project, look forward to learning new skills and meeting new colleagues. The more open you are to change, the more opportunities you create for yourself.

Build rich relationships

The relationships you build with co-workers and team members is probably your biggest asset. And the best relationships thrive on mutual trust, transparency, collaboration and open communication. Seemingly small steps like listening before responding, doing what you commit to, saying thank you and treating everyone with respect will go a long way in enriching your relationships and lead to new opportunities.

Stay in a learning mode

Developing new skills and strengthening those you already have are critical to attracting new opportunities. When you enhance your skills, you become a stronger team player, increase self-confidence and become more adaptable to change.

Check if your corporation offers training opportunities as many organizations do. Consult with your manager about the skills that could add value to your role and to your career path.

Be the first to lend a hand

Look around and seek opportunities where the potential to make an impact is high. The people who most often make a huge difference are those who are first to step up and offer to help. Not only is this a powerful thing but it is also by taking on new challenges that you鈥檒l find opportunities.

You could volunteer to represent your current project team on committees, set up meetings with new team members, offer to learn a new skill and more. When you anticipate situations and solutions and take on additional responsibilities, you will stay ahead of the curve and opportunities will present themselves.

Go from goal setting to goal getting

From Olympic athletes to high achievers in every industry, leaders not only set lofty goals but also figure out a process to achieve them. Start by listing your goals and the steps needed to achieve them. Once you have set clearly defined goals, you鈥檒l be motivated to act, organize time and enhance your skills. This will open doors to a plethora of new opportunities.

Stay resilient and persistent

Resilience and perseverance are critical to spotting and seizing opportunity. Always maintain a positive attitude, keep your ear to the ground and be aware of any changes that may be happening in your inner circle.
