Arrive early if you want the locally famous flapper pie at the Blackfoot Truckstop Diner.


Sinking into a banquette at Calgary鈥檚 , where the decor includes ancient, cracked vinyl seating and a personal jukebox on the table, I ordered a slice of the flapper pie.

The classic prairie dessert, made here with a creamy vanilla custard and a towering, six-inch meringue topping, is a staple at this nearly 68-year-old diner in the city鈥檚 oldest neighbourhood, Inglewood.
